Prostate Cancer Survival

As soon as prostate cancer is found in a man’s body, the doctor normally will arrange some additional tests to assess the risk of prostate cancer from that particular patient. From the tests’ result, the doctor will be able to determine the stage of prostate cancer that the patient has. With the help of DRE and CT/MRI scan, the doctor will know how far the cancer has spread in the patient’s body. Most of the prostate cancer survival are those who the prostate cancer was spotted in early stage.

The doctor can predict the behavior of patient’s prostate cancer by using certain risk factors analysis. Those factors being considered are the age of the patient, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) level, the stage of the cancer, how much patient’s gland has been effected by the cancer, etc. If the cancer is found at the early stage, prostate cancer survival rate is much higher than at the advanced stage. However, we also have to be aware that sometimes cancers do not act as it was expected.

Prostate cancer at T1 stage

This stage is the early prostate cancer stage. It can only be found by using microscope. At T1 stage, the patient might not experience any symptoms of prostate cancer. However, continuous surveillance might be required for the patient at this stage. Prostate cancer survival rate is much higher is this stage.

Prostate cancer at T2 stage

At T2 stage, the doctor with the DRE test will be able to find the cancer. Similar with stage T1, patient at T2 stage may still not feel any symptoms. Most of the time, cancer at this stage can be cured with the right treatment. Statistic has shown that about 70% of patient at stage T2 still alive well over 5 years. At this stage, prostate cancer survival is less than at T1 stage.

Prostate cancer at T3 stage

At T3 stage, prostate cancer has started to spread outside the prostate gland. The patient normally feels bladder symptoms. At T3 stage, the chance of cure is reduced not as much as in stage T1 and T2. However, with the right treatment, there is still chance of cure, even though it is not as high as in stage T1 and T2. Statistic shows that the prostate cancer survival rate with prostate cancer at stage T3 is around 5 years.

Prostate cancer at T4 stage

This stage is a more serious prostate cancer, which has spread further around the prostate gland. At this stage, the cancer is difficult to cure, but it still can be controlled for a period of time. Statistic shows that the prostate cancer survival rate is around 1 to 3 years.
